  18.   This Technical Information sheet is written for Paradox 4.0.  If
  19.   you are installing versions of Paradox earlier than 4.0, replace
  20.   any references of \PDOX40 with \PDOX35 for Paradox 3.5 or
  21.   \PARADOX3 for Paradox 3.0 respectively.

  23.   If you are using Paradox 4.0, you will need to use Netware Lite
  24.   1.1 (contact Novell, if you need to upgrade from Netware Lite 1.0
  25.   to 1.1).

  27.   Install Netware Lite as instructed by the Netware Lite
  28.   documentation.

  31.   PART I: Preparing the server.
  32.  
  33.   Create the following subdirectories on the SERVER's local drive:
  34.  
  35.   C:\PDOX40           This will contain the Paradox program files.
  36.  
  37.   C:\PDOXDATA         This will contain the Paradox data files
  38.                       (including the PDOXUSRS.NET file - if you are
  39.                       using Paradox 4.0, or PARADOX.NET - if you
  40.                       are using versions earlier than 4.0)

  42.   As SUPERVISOR, use the NET utility to create the network
  43.   directories specified above.  The steps are:
  44.  
  45.       o  Type NET to start the Netware Lite NET utility.
  46.  
  47.       o  Select "Supervise the Network" from the Main Menu.

  49.       o  Select "Network directories" from the "Supervise the
  50.          Network" menu.

  52.       o  Press "Ins" to add a new network directory.

  124.   a network.  Respond with a "Y".  An additional screen will
  125.   display, prompting you for the network type and location of the
  126.   Paradox network control file.

  164.   Paradox and use the DOS ATTRIB command to make all files except
  165.   the PARADOX.SOM (PARADOX3.SOM for Paradox 3) read-only.

  167.      1.  Type ATTRIB +R *.*

  169.      2.  If you are installing Paradox 3.5 or 4.0:
  170.          type ATTRIB -R PARADOX.SOM

  176.   PART III: Preparing the client.

  178.   Create a "home" or private directory for the user on their local
  179.   drive:

  181.      C:\> MD PDOXPRIV

  183.   After the client software has been loaded and the client is
  184.   logged to the network, use the NET MAP command to include the
  185.   PDOX40 and PDOXDATA drive letters.

  216.   Add the H: drive to the client's PATH statement.  This can be
  217.   done in a batch file with the following line:

  219.      PATH H:\;%PATH%

  221.   To start Paradox, change to the \PDOXPRIV directory, and type
  222.  
  223.      PARADOX -SHARE
  224.  
  225.   Run the Paradox Custom Configuration Program.  For additional
  226.   information on the Custom Configuration Program, refer to Chapter
  227.   15 of the Paradox 4.0 Getting Started Guide (for versions earlier
  228.   than 4.0, refer to Chapter 14 of the Paradox User's Guide).

  230.   In Custom, select Net |SetPrivate from the main menu.
  231.  
  232.   Change the private directory to C:\PDOXPRIV.
  233.  
  234.   Press <F2> to save the configuration.  Choose "Network" when it
  235.   prompts you where to save the PARADOX.CFG file (if you are using
  236.   Paradox 3.0 this file will be PARADOX3.CFG).
  237.  
  238.   At this point, all users should be able to run Paradox when
  239.   starting from their C:\PDOXPRIV directory.  For additional
  240.   information, see Technical Information Sheet 618 for a general
  241.   overview of how to use Paradox on a network.
  242.  
  243.   Special attention should be given to the Paradox Network
  244.   Installation Guide (for versions earlier than 4.0, refer to the
  245.   Network Administrator's Guide).  The first two chapters of this
  246.   guide are critical to Paradox use on any network.  Also of
  247.   importance is the chapter titled "Configuring Paradox for network
  248.   workstations".
